THE NEW RECRUITS follows a battalion of jet-setting business students armed with a radical plan to end global poverty: charge poor people for goods and services. Heidi, Joel, and Suraj are selected from thousands of applicants to take part in the prestigious Acumen Fund Fellows Program. They will apprentice with “social enterprises” around the world intended to help poor people by treating them as customers rather than recipients of charity. Narrated by Rainn Wilson, Dwight Schrute of NBC’s “The Office.”
Directed by Seth Kramer, Daniel A. Miller & Jeremy Newberger; 2010, 60 minutes. Nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Business and Economic Reporting.
